Features & Capabilities

Bring your Green Mountain Grill into the 21st century with our grill management app. It uses WiFi with up to 40 meters of range in point-to-point mode and lets you connect to your home network (WiFi Mode) or our cloud-based server system (Server Mode). Create grill profiles, monitor meat temps, set timers and alarms, and adjust grill temps from inside your home or remotely.

Calibration tools let you tune air temperature and probe temperatures. For best results, use Firmware 6.7+; server mode requires firmware 6.0+. Server Mode supports Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone, and Jim Bowie grills. Check the support pages for setup and updates.

User Reviews

The Green Mountain Grills iOS app is praised for remote monitoring when a stable connection exists and for useful server-mode updates. However, it is plagued by chronic connectivity problems, crashes when the app is closed, unreliable notifications, an outdated UI, and weak support. Overall, the app undermines the grill experience despite the device’s potential, with occasional simple usability and basic remote features.
Pros
  • Remote monitoring and control of cooking via the app when a stable connection exists.
  • Server mode provides useful real-time updates when it’s functioning.
  • The app is simple to use and can get the basic job done for some users.
  • Multiple connection options (direct, Wi‑Fi, server) offer flexibility when a connection is possible.
Cons
  • Frequent, unreliable connectivity across direct, Wi‑Fi, and server modes; the app often cannot stay connected to the grill.
  • Closing the app or letting the phone sleep disconnects the grill and pauses cooking.
  • Notifications are unreliable or absent; alerts often don't appear unless the app is open.
  • Horribly outdated UI, not user friendly, and lack of modern features or integrations (e.g., Apple Watch).
  • Inadequate support and debugging guidance; reports of wasted time troubleshooting and lack of developer tools.

Was a great grill, the. They gave up on us and decided to call the new grills ‘2.0’…. Ooooh, ahhhh. Thanks for forgetting those who helped you get going.

Used to work. Stopped about 6 months ago with zero reason and no updates from GMG. Did they get bought out by private equity, because customers come last it would seem.

The grill continues to fail to connect to the app, even after I have updated the firmware and connected to the grill WiFi. It doesn’t matter if I’m on either side of it or right on top of it. When it will connect, I can’t travel 5feet away from it, or else the connection fails, then I’m back to square one trying to connect again.
