User Reviews

Reviews praise authentic 808 sounds and intuitive, fast-to-learn UI with a useful Song mode. Repeated drawbacks include licensing/purchase friction (restore failures, aggressive upgrade prompts, lite vs pro confusion), heavy battery drain, and disruptive paywall behavior that can lock the device. When purchased, the app shines in sound and workflow, but the in-app purchase experience and battery usage deter potential users.
Pros
  • High-quality, faithful 808-like sounds.
  • Intuitive, responsive touch controls and a UI that avoids heavy submenus.
  • Fast getting started and easy workflow; great for beginners and on small screens.
  • Graphical sequencing with a dedicated Song mode makes arranging full tracks easy.
Cons
  • Persistent in-app purchase prompts and licensing issues: lite vs pro confusion, restore purchases not working, and accidental purchases.
  • Significant battery drain, especially with the app active or overnight.
  • Lite/pro version friction: difficulty downloading/upgrading to Pro and perceived price-for-value concerns.
  • On-device lockups/pay-wall interruptions: the app has, in some reviews, locked devices to the pay screen or forced restarts.

Buy the paid version, it is such a deal!! This is the best designed drum machine iphone app I’ve tried; it actually works so well i feel like i don’t need hardware. Getting started is fast and easy, all the controls work well even on the small screen of my iphone 13mini. Thank you for making knobs that always work perfectly with a touch screen, that’s a rare thing!! It is faithful to all the features and workflows that make an 808 so fun to use with the added benefit of a graphical sequencing screen that’s easy to switch back and forth into. It just works as it should and lets you create the beats you want to create, with no fussing around in submenus. Perfect!! The sounds are great too, really faithful to the original! The only reason you might prefer the hardware over this is if you want to go back and forth tweaking multiple volumes and tone controls, in the app you have to select an instrument separately to see its individual controls. Song mode is to the right if you swipe and it’s great for laying out a whole song so that you can start it up and let it go while you play smoother instrument etc. really intuitive and well thought out!
