User Reviews

EG Pulse is a capable iOS sampler/drum machine with strong AUv3 support, flexible sample loading, and active developer updates. Users frequently praise its intuitive workflow and features like time stretch and precise grid snapping. However, recurring downsides across reviews include stability bugs (random sample loading, MIDI crashes, kit deletions), uneven DAW compatibility (notably GarageBand), and notable feature gaps (16 pads/patterns, no velocity layers, no undo). Performance concerns at high BPM and some UI/UX drawbacks also appear in multiple reviews.
Pros
  • AUv3/plugin compatibility with standalone operation and multi-out support across hosts (e.g., Cubasis)
  • Strong developer support and frequent updates that address issues and add features
  • Flexible sampling: load your own wave files per pad with drag-and-drop/import from Files app
  • Intuitive and responsive core workflow that many users praise for speed and ease of kit creation
  • Time-stretch/loop-sync features and solid grid quantization enhancing live beat making
Cons
  • Stability and bugs: issues like random sample loading, MIDI/CV crashes, and custom kits deleting themselves
  • Poor or inconsistent DAW integration, especially GarageBand compatibility and certain export/import problems (e.g., Ableton exports with blank samples)
  • Feature gaps: limited to 16 pads/sounds and 16 patterns, no velocity layers, no undo, no multi-bar patterns, and limited grid Zoom/ editing controls
  • Audio engine can crackle or clip at higher BPM (reported at ~126 BPM and above, with some improvements in updates)
  • UI/UX drawbacks for some users: non-standard interface with a learning curve and missing common editing shortcuts (e.g., CMD+C/V, undo)

Well, it's official I found the best drum sequencer I've ever used. There are a few things wrong with it, but it's been fixed with this update. I just reached out to the developer, and there it was, the fix. I just wish every other app had support like this, five stars!

This app would be a home run if it allowed for at least 2 bar and preferably 4 bar patterns. There are workarounds, like song mode, but that is a bit clunky. For all the effort and polish that went into this app the lack of multiple bar patterns is somewhat mystifying especially considering how elegantly this works on Koala sampler for years now.
