Its always better and important to practice a difficult conversation but its not easy to practice it yourself. Practicing these conversations verbally with someone in front of you, answering, cross questioning you makes it real and teaches you how to perform well.

DryRun is the app which helps you find that someone, answers back and talks to you.

Pick the conversation you are dreading. A final round for a job you are not quite ready for. Asking for a salary hike. Telling someone their role is going. Then talk. Out loud, in real time. The other person listens, responds, and behaves the way that kind of person actually behaves.

WHAT YOU GET WHEN IT ENDS

Every rehearsal is scored on the six things that decide how these conversations go. Directness. Did you say the thing you came to say, and how early? Clarity. Could the other side tell what you were asking for? Confidence. Hedging, qualifying, trailing off, asking permission to speak. Composure. Apologising and over-explaining when the pressure comes. Holding ground. When they pushed back, did your position survive? Listening. Did you answer what was actually said, or run your script?

BRING THE ONE YOU ARE ACTUALLY DREADING

The built-in situations cover interviews, managing people, negotiation, and delivering bad news. They are a good place to start. But the rehearsal that helps is the one you are losing sleep over, so describe what is actually happening in your own words and DryRun builds the person and the scene around it.

HOW IT WORKS

You speak and they answer out loud. It is a conversation, not a chat window. The other side is generated. No human is on the call and nobody hears your rehearsal. Your camera is optional and off by default. Turn it on to see yourself the way the other person would.

Practice is the part everyone skips, and the only part you control.
