Nobody trains you for the first time you give hard feedback to someone who used to be your peer. Or the first time you say no to your own manager. You rehearse it in the car, go in anyway, and come out having said about a third of it, agreed to something you didn't mean to agree to, and spent the next week composing the version you should have said.

In Your Own Words is a practice ground for those sixty seconds.

Pick the scenario closest to yours. You get a card with the situation, what makes it awkward, and what tends to go wrong. Then you speak your opening, once, for up to a minute. The app listens to how you said it and shows you four things: your pace, the filler words you used and where, the longest run you got through without stumbling, and where you hesitated.

Then you do it again. And again the next evening. The runs stack up under the conversation you're preparing for, so you can watch the hesitations thin out before the real thing.

Here's what it doesn't do. It never tells you whether what you said was any good. Nothing grades your answer, there's no model script to copy, and nothing scores your tone or your confidence. The speech recognition transcribes your words and times them. That's all it does, and it's the only judgement in the app.

The recordings never leave your phone. Speech recognition runs on the device itself, so there's no upload, no account, no cloud, nothing to sign into and nothing to delete later. Turn on Airplane Mode and it still works.
