SPELLING AND GRAMMAR, OFFLINE Their and they're, its and it's, your and you're, "should of", "was wrote", "loose" for "lose" — mistakes a spellchecker cannot see, because every word in them is spelled correctly. Thirty-five rules, on the device, free, with no permission and no network. Corrections appear above the keys and apply with a tap, or fix the whole message at once. Give them a row of their own and they stay visible as you write. Long-press for accents, an optional number row, a height slider. Undo, which iOS gives keyboards no way to do.

LOOK Forty-two colours, thirty-nine key shapes and sixteen drawn backdrops, mixed however you like. They move while you type — rain, fire, fireflies, meteors — and stop when it goes away. All contrast-checked. One-handed mode pins the keys to the side you reach.

LAYOUTS QWERTY, Dvorak, Colemak and ABC. The iPhone has never offered Dvorak or Colemak on screen, so if you type one on a computer, this is the first time your phone can match. Autocorrect follows whichever you pick.

SOUND AND FEEL Six key sounds — typewriter with a bell on return, mechanical, thock, bubble, retro, water — generated on the phone, not recorded. Haptics per key. For hands that shake, a key can be set to need holding, or to ignore a second press.

FONTS, FACES AND EMOJI Twenty-seven text styles — bold, script, gothic, wide, upside down — applied to a finished message, so you keep autocorrect while writing it. Two hundred text faces, and the full emoji set with skin tones.

IS IT A SCAM? Paste a message you were sent and it says what it noticed: pressure to act now, an odd way to pay, a threat to an account. It takes two before it speaks. Links too — an address that looks like a bank and goes elsewhere, letters swapped for digits. Offline, never uploaded.

IT CATCHES WHAT YOU'D REGRET A login code about to be forwarded to whoever just asked for it — the most common way people are defrauded, and the only moment to stop it.

WHAT DOES THIS EVEN SAY? Paste a clause, a form, a letter from a landlord and get it in plain English.

TRANSLATE Twenty languages. Which one it's in is worked out on the phone.

MESSAGES NOBODY ELSE CAN READ Agree a phrase with someone. After that, write in any app and what leaves your phone is scrambled text nobody can turn back. No account, no server.

THE SMALL USEFUL THINGS A sum mid-sentence and the answer appears. Type "next friday" and get the date. A clipboard that refuses to remember login codes. A password generator that types straight in and never saves it. Save your email, phone and address once and a field that asks for one offers it — never a password field.

WHAT PRO IS FOR AI review — grammar that reads the sentence, tone, rewriting, synonyms — translation, plain-English explanations, locking messages, and most of the themes, shapes, backdrops and sounds. About 8,000 words a day; nothing offline is metered.

WHAT LEAVES YOUR DEVICE Enforced in code, not promised in a policy. Password fields are never checked. While you write a locked message, every engine that would use a network is left out. No accounts, no analytics, no ad identifiers, no history of what you type. A screen in the app lists what each setting sends.
