Keyboard: Built for You

I downloaded this keyboard app, as it seemed promising for my needs compared to the colony of other keyboard apps. For starters, it doesn't abuse the widespread (and commonly hated by users older than 9) practice of making their users ignorantly abide to (and forget they pay for) their copius amount of subscriptions and microtransactions. As of version 1.3.2 on build 1, there's no possible way to spend money on this app: Your constitutional rights won't be locked behind $149.99 worth of gems split between twelve individual payments. The app is free with no in-app purchases, and there's not even a place to donate toward the app, either! Feature-wise, this app won't make your phone load 50 fidget toys into ≥70 MB of RAM every time your nephew wants to search for Italian brainrot on YouTube™︎. Since this keyboard doesn't have to transfer data across sandboxes as much as the other guys, this keyboard would probably be able to load fast enough to consistently fit within the threshold where users wouldn't notice a delay, even if iOS terminated and relaunched the process in the background. (Looking back on the iPad kid terminology, it's pretty much a lose-lose situation for them since they'd have to choose between not having a corny keyboard or not having Triple T withdrawals. Quite a hard decision, right?) Even if this keyboard has less features when compared to the apps you see first when you search "keyboard" on the App Store, they spend that extra development time (which still isn't as much compared to the amount of work that megacorps can get by hiring hundreds of minimum wage workers and AI coding agents) on putting extra effort into their app. Comparing aside, it's about time that I finally talk about what this app has to offer. Starting off, you're given four (with one theme having complimentary light and dark variants) pre-made keyboard themes. In the settings, you have the basics, such as wether you want autocorrect, auto-capitalization, the suggestion row, and more. You also have the option to add and remove extra keys such as a number row, the emoji key, an inline globe key (Sadly, iOS will always put a globe icon below the rendered keyboard when you have more than one keyboard provider enabled, such as the Symbol keyboard.), and even a customizable quick insert key for a more persistent clipboard entry, such as a template for responding to an off-topic sponsor deal. There's still more features in the settings and theme creator pages, but this review is already way too long, so you'll have to see the rest for yourself. You're also given an obligatory theme creator, and there's quite a good amount of powerful options to personalize the look and feel, such as: • individually adjusting the horizontal and vertical padding/spacing between the neighboring keys and the edges of the keyboard (Which can also let you somewhat resize the keys to your liking, too) • Choosing a solid color or gradient for the keyboard's background • Individually style the border, highlights, gradient/color fill and more for the letter, modifier, spacebar, and return keys • And much more! It's not that hard to make your keyboard personal with editor, while at the same time not making it an eyesore to look at. Seriously, give it a try! As a power user who (for some reason) trusts iOS for their mobile device of choice, I understand that some flexibility must be sacrificed to make a sturdy product, but I still yearned for an extra level of user-customization. I was searching for complete control on what and how things were displayed on my on-screen keyboard, and despite the lack of indication about subscriptions in App Store apps alongside the absence of being able to filter search results and the dauntingly vast sea of subscription-fueled shovelware, I still managed to find something that satisfies this niche desire. Thank you for developing this app, and thank you for focusing on making a good product. (P.S; There's a bug with page switching that occasionally hapoens when I switch to the symbol page. There's a chance that, while the animation of the keys morphing to the new layout plays out, I attempt to press what would be a different character residing in the next page. However, that tap still registers as what would be the previous layout's key at that position. (For example, making me type (m) instead of (') or (c) instead of (,) when I try adding some punctuation into a sentence while typing fast enough.) I'm guessing that the the key objects were rightfully being reused for efficiency and animation purposes, but the pointers only changed when the label cross-fading transition begun.)
