Lock your phone and leave it on the desk — recording carries on. Pause it when the lecturer takes a break and resume when they come back.

READ IT BACK AFTERWARDS Every recording becomes a timestamped transcript. Tap any line to hear exactly what was said at that moment, at up to double speed. The original audio is always kept, because a transcript is a convenience and the recording is the record.

MORE THAN 40 LANGUAGES Set the language your lecturer actually speaks, per course. Cathedra uses your iPhone's own speech recognition, which covers more than forty languages. The interface itself is translated into 22.

ON YOUR LAPTOP TOO Sign in with just your email address — no password — and your courses and transcripts are there at cathedra.study, where you can read them and ask Cathedra AI from a keyboard. The account is optional: everything on the iPhone works without one.

YOUR LECTURES ARE YOURS Recordings never leave your iPhone, and transcription happens on the device. Courses, timetables and transcripts sync through your own iCloud; the audio does not. If you sign in, your courses, transcripts and questions — never the audio — are also kept on your Cathedra account so the website can show them. No advertising, no tracking and no third-party code. Usage statistics carry nothing that says who you are, and Settings switches them off. Cathedra AI fixes a new transcript's misheard terms and answers what you ask: the text goes through our server to the AI service, and is not kept there.

WORTH KNOWING BEFORE YOU RECORD Recording a lecture captures someone else's voice. Whether you may is decided by local law and your university's rules. Many institutions allow it for personal study and prohibit sharing; some ask you to get permission first. Please check, and do not publish a recording of someone who did not agree to it.

CATHEDRA AI Recording, transcription, search, the timetable, and summaries and flashcards made on your iPhone are free. Cathedra AI — questions about a lecture or a whole course, quizzes, reading a lecture in your own language, and photographs of the board explained — is an optional subscription, Pro or Max, monthly or yearly. It renews automatically until you cancel, which you can do at any time in your Apple Account settings.
