Family cookbook & meal planner
Every family recipe in one private cookbook. Cook hands-free with step timers, plan the week together, and shop from a list that builds itself. Free for 14 days.
Cooking together is one of the most human things we do — and phones at the table are quietly pulling us away from it.
A Fish in the Kitchen is the cookbook your whole family shares — the place every treasured recipe finally lives together, on every phone and tablet in the house.
Built for the way families actually cook: someone's at the stove, someone's planning the week, and someone's trying to write down Granny's recipe before it's lost for good.
COOK HANDS-FREE
• A full-screen Cook Mode made for the stove — big text, swipeable steps, and the screen stays awake.
• Per-step timers that keep going and alarm you even when your phone is locked or you've switched apps.
• Tick off ingredients as you go, and pick up right where you left off if you step away.
KEEP EVERY RECIPE
• Add recipes by hand, or snap a photo of a page — even a handwritten card — and let it read the recipe in for you.
• Photos, ingredients, method, timings, heat level, the story behind the dish — all in one place.
• Search and filter by category, meat, season, difficulty, or how quick it is.
PLAN THE WEEK, SHOP ONCE
• Plan the week's meals and see what the rest of the family is making.
• Build a shopping list automatically from your planned meals — it syncs to everyone, with a share button for whoever's at the shop.
• Mark what's already in the cupboard so you only shop for what's missing.
COOK TOGETHER
• Create event menus for gatherings, set the date, and assign who's making what.
• Leave notes, mark the keepers, and see who loved which dish.
• Pin kitchen tips to a recipe so they turn up while you're cooking it, not buried in a note somewhere.
SHARE BEYOND YOUR KITCHEN
• Share any recipe with anyone — they get a beautiful page, and if they have the app they can save it straight into their own cookbook, credit included.
• Invite other families to help plan an event menu: they claim dishes and comment from their own phones, and you see it all live.
GIFT A COOKBOOK
• Gift someone a year of their own private cookbook — a wedding, a kitchen tea, a first flat, Christmas.
• It's theirs outright, with room to invite their own family in.
• Send a copy of your whole cookbook with it, so they start with every recipe they grew up on rather than an empty shelf.
• We email them a card, on the day you choose.
A COOKBOOK PER FAMILY (OR FRIEND GROUP)
• One owner sets up the cookbook and invites everyone in — members join free, up to five of them.
• Make it yours: your own hero photo, your own tagline, and wording that fits a family, a friend group, or just you.
• Everyone's changes stay in sync across all their devices.
PRIVATE AND AD-FREE, ALWAYS
Nothing is public and nothing is searchable. Only the people you invite can see your recipes. No ads, no selling your data, no algorithm deciding what your family should eat.
WHY THIS EXISTS
A few years ago I moved away from my parents. My daughter asked her grandfather to write his recipes down for her — and he did, a paperback he made himself called the Kookbook. That's where this app started.
Subscription required to own a cookbook (invited members are always free). New owners get a 14-day free trial.
Chrome-Stats does not own this Apple app. Please use these information below to contact the Apple app developer.
