Photograph the ingredients list on the back of a product, or paste it from a shop's website. In a few seconds you see whether it suits rosacea and redness-prone skin: which ingredients are best avoided, which to use with care, which tend to help, and what to do next. It reads the standard INCI names printed on packaging, so it works on products from most countries, including ones no barcode database has heard of.

WHAT THE SCANNER FLAGS Ingredients that widen blood vessels, such as denatured alcohol, menthol and camphor. Fragrance and the fragrance allergens EU law requires on labels. Essential oils, harsh detergents, irritating preservatives, strong acids and scrubs. It tells you when a sunscreen uses only mineral filters, the kind least likely to sting, and when a worrying-sounding ingredient like cetyl alcohol is actually fine.

YOUR PRODUCTS, YOUR REACTIONS Every scan is saved. Mark each product as fine or irritating, and Flarewell shows which ingredients your irritating products have in common, then warns you when a new product contains one of them. Compare two products side by side, or share a result.

CONNECTED TO YOUR SKIN LOG Rate your redness in about 20 seconds and tick the products you used. Flarewell shows whether your skin tends to be redder on days you use products with a particular ingredient, and how your skin has changed from one fortnight to the next. These are patterns in your own records, not proof of cause. When a flare starts, Flare SOS shows what went on your skin that day.
