Regulate your nervous system
Forest sounds, breathwork and our 100% pure Japanese hinoki oil to regulate your nervous system. Go to the forest when you can. Carry it with you when you can't.
We built this app for our customers to pair with the hinoki oil we source from Japan and to put our website's wellness routines into practice.
Nervous system regulation needs simple but consistent physical cues because you can't think your way into calm. The two breathwork exercises in this app, combined with our hinoki oil that we source directly from a Japanese forest, have been the most impactful cues for helping us regulate our nervous systems throughout the day.
Nothing beats actually being in the forest, but this holds us over until we can make it out there.
Completely free. No sign up or paywall.
A DIGITAL FOREST BATH
Shinrin-yoku, or "forest bathing," is the Japanese practice of slowing down inside the forest to let your nervous system reset. We can't always get to the woods, so we brought the forest to you. Hinoki canopies. Birdsong. A small river. Wind through the trees.
That's why we recommend smelling our Japanese hinoki oil during your breathwork session. Your body picks up some of the natural compounds you'd experience on a real forest walk, and your brain starts picking up similar cues to being there.
TWO BREATHING TECHNIQUES
4·7·8. Inhale four, hold seven, exhale eight. The long exhale tells your body it's safe to rest. This is what we use before bed.
Box breathing (4·4·4·4). Equal phases on every side. Used by Navy SEALs and athletes for a reason. This is what we use throughout the day to stay calm without getting sleepy.
Choose sessions of 5, 10, or 20 minutes. We recommend 5 minute sessions every 2 hours and one session 30 minutes before bed every night, but create a routine that is realistic for you.
FOREST SOUNDS YOU CAN MIX
Birds in the hinoki canopies. A small river through the forest. Wind through the trees. Gentle rainfall. Distant rolling thunder.
Layer them however you want. Headphones make it better.
FOREST SCENES
Pick the backdrop that fits your mood. Forest at dawn. A mossy hinoki grove. Mt Fuji at dusk. A lake retreat. An onsen. The Dolomites. The scene fills your screen during the session so your brain gets similar physical cues to being in the forest when you combine the visual, audio, and scent.
DAILY PRACTICE
Set a reminder every two hours or at a specific time of day, whatever fits your routine. We recommend at least five minutes every two hours, but the option is yours. We'll send the reminders so you actually build the habit over time.
And for all our mouth breathers out there, we added an option to remind you to breathe through your nose. It makes a bigger difference in how you feel throughout the day than most people realize.
Schedule a wind-down session before bed. Most people have a smart alarm for waking up, but we set notifications for when it's time to smell our hinoki, do breathwork, and wind down for sleep. Setting that reminder 30 minutes to an hour before bed at the same time every night has had a huge impact on our sleep.
Track your sessions over time so you can look back and see when you feel your best, or when you feel off, and compare it to your breathwork routine.
PAIRS WITH OUR HINOKI OIL
The app was made alongside our kimorii collection's hinoki essential oil, 100% pure and sourced directly from a single forest in Japan. Add 2 to 3 drops on a wood block or in a diffuser while doing your breathwork. Hinoki has been part of Japanese wellness traditions for centuries, and pairing its scent with breathwork has been our favorite ritual. Plus, it smells absolutely incredible.
