DeskHero turns short strength workouts into a game you play right at your desk. Across the workday it gives you a few quick "quests" of 3 to 5 minutes each that guide you through simple exercises using just your body and your chair.

HOW IT WORKS Every quest is a short battle. You face a personified workplace health risk, such as a glaring monitor, an endless flight of stairs, or the tension that builds after hours of sitting, and you beat it by actually doing the exercise:

• TAP quests count your repetitions • HOLD quests measure how long you hold a position • WATCH quests walk you through a short mobility or breathing sequence

Clear your daily quests to earn XP, level up, and keep your streak alive. A light story carries you through ten rooms of an office building as you make your way out, one workday at a time.

ABOUT THE STUDY DeskHero was created for a bachelor's thesis on serious games and workplace health. Taking part is voluntary and runs over a short evaluation period of about two weeks, during which the app asks brief questions about your experience. Your answers stay on your device and are only sent anywhere if you choose to submit them at the end, in pseudonymized form. You can stop at any time.
