User Reviews

Users broadly praise Mona 7 as a feature-rich, highly customizable Mastodon client that works well across devices and is favored by many. However, the dominant repeated concerns are the monetization shift to a subscription and the non-transfer of lifetime licenses, which many view as a bait-and-switch. Additional critique centers on lingering bugs and feature gaps carried from Mona 6, plus confusing UI/pricing changes. Some users still appreciate the one-time upgrade option for existing owners and the developer’s responsiveness, but overall sentiment is split between strong praise for the product and strong frustration with its pricing model.
Pros
  • Full-featured Mastodon client with extensive customization and a robust feature set
  • Works smoothly across iOS and macOS, offering strong cross-device compatibility
  • Highly regarded by users as a top choice / favorite Mastodon app with positive UX
  • Maintains a one-time purchase upgrade option for existing Mona 6 Ultra purchasers
  • Developer responsiveness to issues and bug reports has been noted by users
Cons
  • Pricing shift to subscription in Mona 7 and non-transfer of lifetime licenses, seen by many as a bait-and-switch
  • Perceived as a cash grab with controversial monetization; inconsistent pricing messaging across versions
  • Bugs and missing features carry over from Mona 6, with some users worried about ongoing maintenance of the old app and the new one
  • UI/UX changes and design inconsistencies (e.g., confusing Mac layouts, missing icons, unclear naming like Mona Pro Ultra/Classic)
  • Specific bugs cited (e.g., mismatch between reply counts and actual replies, local-only note/mute/save behavior) and general perception that issues are not fully addressed

This is my favorite Mastodon client. I was a huge fan of Spring for Twitter, and was so happy to see this dev carryover to Mastodon. Selfishly I hope they someday make a Bluesky app since I’m not a regular Mastodon user.

Paid for previous version. This one is no different. Won’t be fooled twice for when Mona 8 comes out.
