Screen Time Limits, QR & NFC
Put your phone down and be here. Share a break so everyone is present together, not just in the same room. Four modes: Flexible, Locked, QR Code, NFC Tag.
BreakOff helps you decide when your phone is useful, and when it should get out of the way.
Real, enforced blocking powered by Apple's Screen Time API, not gentle reminders you can swipe away. Everything you need to block apps is free. No account required.
PUT THE OFF SWITCH IN ANOTHER ROOM
Every other blocker keeps the escape hatch in your pocket. BreakOff lets you move it into physical space.
QR unlock
Start a break, save the code, then leave it somewhere you have to walk to. The fridge. A drawer. The next room. Getting your apps back means getting up.
NFC tag unlock
Tap a tag to end the break. Stick it on the fridge, a bedroom doorframe, the inside of a drawer, your gym bag. One tap, no fumbling with your phone.
Bring your own tag. Any standard NTAG sticker works. Tags are not included.
Distance does the work, so willpower does not have to.
BREAK TOGETHER
A break nobody else is taking is easy to quit.
- Share any break and everyone joins the same clock. You all go phone-free at the same time, and it ends when it ends.
- Send it as a link or a QR code, whichever is easier in the moment.
- Your Circle shows who is breaking and who is holding a streak.
HOST A BREAK
Sometimes the point is the room, not you. Host a break other people join by scanning a printed poster. They do not need an account. Up to 10 people per break.
A classroom that starts phone-free. A team offsite where nobody is half-there. A dinner table, a workshop, a rehearsal. One poster, everyone scans, phones go quiet together.
FOUR WAYS A BREAK CAN END
Mode answers one question: how does this break end?
- Flexible: your apps are blocked, and you can end the break whenever you want
- Locked: the break runs its full length and cannot be ended early
- QR Code: same scan in, same scan out. Leave the code somewhere you have to walk to
- NFC Tag: same tap in, same tap out. Stick it on the fridge, a drawer, your gym bag
Set the length with the stepper, or choose Until Tomorrow to stay blocked through to midnight.
RULES AND ROUTINES
- Rules are your repeating blocks. Weekday mornings, every evening after 9, study hours on Sunday. Unlimited on every plan.
- Routines bundle a few Rules into one setup you can add in two taps. Work Focus, Slow Morning, Better Sleep, School Focus, Family Time, Weekend Reset.
- Plan ahead with one off blocks on specific calendar dates.

I love this app! I really love the flexibility of this app and how you can create specific schedules with specific apps and choose how intense you want your social media breaks to be. They recently released a new feature where you can share this with friends and “break off” together which has been really fun to use on vacations.
My toxic trait is that I ignore my app limits. They’re usually way too easy to bypass. BreakOff made it just difficult enough that I actually stopped myself from mindlessly opening social media every few minutes. I was able to sit down and focus for a change because I didn’t have the option to instantly cave to the urge. It’s simple, effective, and has been one of the few focus apps that’s actually changed my behavior instead of becoming another notification I ignore.
