Features & Capabilities

Detector Maps is your ultimate field tool for gold prospecting in Australia, the United States, and New Zealand. Built by geologists for real prospectors, it combines advanced geological datasets with intuitive GPS tools so you can explore smarter, stay on the gold, and avoid wasting time on low-potential ground, even offline.

Offline map tiles and layers (surface geochemistry, historic mines, current and expired leases updated daily), optional LiDAR hillshade, breadcrumb trail tracking, and the ability to drop and sync waypoints with notes give you a mobile, offline-ready toolkit. Real-time GPS navigation and cross-device syncing help you cover more ground with confidence, across AU, US, NZ, and England.

User Reviews

Users praise Detector Maps for an all-in-one data hub with integrated claim data, useful mapping layers (boundaries, MLRS, LiDAR), and the efficiency of replacing several tools with one app. Positive feedback also highlights good customer service. However, there are recurring concerns about data gaps in certain regions, navigation/UI bugs, and pricing/trial promises. Overall, the app is valued for research and prospecting but usability and data completeness are common pain points.
Pros
  • All-in-one data hub with integrated sources (MRDS, active claims, historic claims, hotspots) and an easy-to-use interface.
  • Rich mapping features including claim boundaries linked to MLRS data, LiDAR compatibility, and display of water flow and seasonal streams for research.
  • Consolidates multiple tools into one app, saving time and effort (one app to replace three).
  • Strong customer support that users cite as a positive aspect of the experience.
Cons
  • Regional data gaps and incomplete data in certain areas (missing BLM/land ownership boundaries, active/historic claims, and other essential layers).
  • Usability and navigation issues such as the map jumping back to the current location after panning, limited shading controls, and other UI glitches.
  • Pricing and trial complaints, including perceived misrepresentation of trial length and related cancellation/renewal issues.

The app only gives me placer claim count when im looking at prospectivity and catchments, which used to give me the probability of gold percentages. Im really enjoying the app other than the little bugs here and there.
