Review summary

Users largely praise StepBloc for its unique approach—reducing screen time by turning blocking into workouts and promoting focus and fitness. The free tier is usable, and some reviews favor a lifetime premium option. However, recurring concerns include pricing and limited free features, unreliable rep counting, missing features like banked minutes, and occasional blocking/unlock bugs or device freezes. Overall the app is seen as innovative and effective for reducing phone use, but reliability and cost are common drawbacks.
Pros
  • Reduces screen time by turning blocking into workouts (push-ups/squats).
  • Unique concept that differentiates it from other screen-time blockers.
  • Helps focus and overall well-being; users report being more present.
  • Free tier is usable without mandatory upfront purchase (premium optional).
  • Simple motion-based rep counting helps track workouts.
Cons
  • Free version is too limited and premium pricing is high.
  • Rep counting is unreliable and can be gamed; certain reps may not register.
  • Lacks features like banking minutes and flexible scheduling of rules.
  • Occasional reliability bugs, including blocking/unlocking issues.
  • Rare device freezes or crashes when blocking apps.

2026-08-08 vu***** Biggest gripe I have is how meeting a step counter gives me X mins/hrs IMMEDIATELY. I cannot accumulate screen time and use it later. I’d rather have 1000 steps = 5/10min of screen time and use blocked apps for a bit depending on how much I walk. Pros: - Blocks apps very well, even visiting their website. Awesome! 1 extra star for this More Cons: - no option to start my day with X min/hr of time on the app. - no way to reset “banked” steps daily (banking steps doesn’t even exist…)

2026-06-07 So***** I have two problems. 1: there should be a way to make it so for every minute of screen time goes to 1 push-up/squat. 2: today was my first time trying (not premium) and after 4 sessions of pushups, it says I’ve reached my daily limit. My thought was that when I wanted to use an app, I do pushups, not having to do all the pushups first thing in the morning, then using all your time. Am I missing something or is this actually real? Started as a 5 star app, but now I can’t even use it.

2026-05-29 Se***** The app itself actually gets me off my phone but a widget would be very nice to track your progress without having to go on the app!
