User Reviews

MobileOrg is valued for mobile capture and Org-mode access away from Emacs with cloud sync after setup, but suffers from unreliable syncing, a complex Emacs-centric setup, and inconsistent file loading plus weak support/docs. Streamlining onboarding, stabilizing synchronization, and improving help/notification features would significantly improve usability.
Pros
  • Capture items on the go with a simple, focused workflow.
  • Org-mode integration that works away from Emacs (agenda, capture, and full-text search).
  • Remote synchronization with cloud storage (e.g., Nextcloud) after initial setup.
Cons
  • Sync reliability is poor, with checksum errors and other sync failures.
  • Initial setup is convoluted and relies on Emacs-specific steps (org-mobile-push) that aren’t well explained.
  • Files may not load correctly or appear without contents, and indexing/visibility can be inconsistent.
  • Notifications are missing or not functional, and help/resources can be unresponsive or broken.

I really appreciate this app. It has a very minimal UI and doesn’t try to be fancy. It just gets out of the way and lets you type. Remote synchronization (in my case to Nextcloud) is seamless once it’s set up. I guess the setup process is the only area where it could be streamlined a bit. I hope this app is still being maintained, because it’s really quite useful.

The description says that the app “can view, edit and search Emacs Org mode files” but misses the important point “which are referenced in some root index file”. If you want to view _a_ file, the app won’t help you, since it won’t see the file.
