User Reviews

EndNote on iPad offers cross-device syncing, solid organization, and usable reading/annotation with a built-in browser, making it helpful for on-the-go research. However, it trails the desktop version in features (tags/smart groups), suffers from bugs and instability, has login/account issues, and provides limited Office/Pages integration and support. Overall it’s useful but not a full desktop replacement.
Pros
  • Syncs across devices with the desktop EndNote library.
  • Keeps references well organized and supports browser access and Word plug-ins for citations.
  • Effective reading/annotation features, including Apple Pencil support.
  • Built-in browser for collecting sources and accessing web content for citation management.
Cons
  • iPad version lacks key desktop features like smart groups and tags, with limited tagging and advanced search capabilities.
  • Bugs and stability issues, including crashes when annotating PDFs and overall laggy performance.
  • Login/account access problems (unable to log in on iPad, account lockouts) and weak customer support.
  • Limited integration with Office/Pages and lack of EndNote Click Safari support, plus constrained export options.

The application could be much if it would provide the ability to extract formatted bibliography entries that you could paste in a Pages document instead of the limited software that it is currently.

Missing crucial features that are now used in the desktop version, such as tags.

Honestly I don’t think the developers had the user in mind when creating this app. It feels like a copy of the desktop database when in reality, people want this app to read and annotate. For instance, I tag papers that I want to read first, but this app doesn’t even support searching by tags.
