References On Tap is a portable reference manager that searches arXiv, Google Books, Google Scholar, JSTOR, the Library of Congress, PubMed, PubMed Central, and Semantic Scholar to find, display, and import reference data and PDFs when you have access.

It lets you search your personal library, organize items into static or smart groups, and share citations or PDFs for reading or exporting to desktop reference managers. It also supports iCloud sync across iOS and macOS for cross-device access. Standard, one-time purchase ($4.99) with no limit on searches or imports; Premium, yearly subscription ($4.99) adds cloud sync across devices. It sure would be great to be able to SORT my results. If there’s a way to do it, it’s not apparent in the app and trying to access the user guide at Referencesontap.com, the Cloudflare handshake always fails. Using the free version on my phone that never was an issue since results are limited to 20 hits per search. But now that I paid for the full version, I have to wade through hundreds of hits. "narrow your search terms” is not always the best way to discover new information, so ability to SORT would be great. Heck, just access to the user guide, and I could go from there.

I downloaded the app for my new Mac Mini. I attempted to initiate a search only to receive notification of an SSL error. I clicked on their support link. There isn't any active support. Rather, I got information about the iOS app which I do not have. I clicked on the User Manual link and received information about and it was also about the iOS version. I would love to use this app on my Mac but so far that doesn't seem likely.

The App is pretty good to find papers on arxiv and quickly organize your reading. There are some serious missing functionalities which can really improve the user experience, such as : 1. The inability to export the references: Currently there is no way to export the groups to a bib file, you may "share" individual papers via notes and the dialog box shows the bib references. But nothing for bulk export. 2. Inability to change where the app stores the downloaded pdfs. It is unclear if the pro version allows users to choose the cloud service, i.e., dropbox, google drive, etc. 3. Inability to add more searchable sites in the basic version. You can only choose to search between the sites listed, there is no way to add more sites. 4. Sorting function can be made available on the main interface. I hope the developer considers these changes, if so I can see myself using this every day. Thanks!
