Features & Capabilities

Texifier is an offline LaTeX editor for iPhone and iPad that supports LaTeX, Plain TeX, and Markdown. It automatically scans a LaTeX root file, opens referenced files, builds a document outline, and configures the typesetter for the project. The editor features syntax highlighting, command autocomplete (including user-defined commands), and smart autofill for citations and references, plus a powerful outline and full-text search across the project.

The built-in TexpadTeX typesetter runs offline with support for TeXLive packages, BibTeX and Makeindex tools, and a bundle manager to install LaTeX packages. Cloud typesetting is available for remote builds, and Texifier Connect enables syncing across devices. It integrates with the Files app, supports Beamer, TikZ, and other packages, and provides live typesetting for instant feedback.

User Reviews

Texifier is praised for its cross-device workflow and fast compile speed with broad package support and on-screen PDF preview, but reviewers repeatedly flag missing package support, export/log issues, stability problems, offline limitations, and spotty cloud storage integration.
Pros
  • Cross-device workflow with a Mac desktop app and iCloud syncing, enabling easy work transfer between iPad and Mac.
  • Fast compilation for large documents with broad LaTeX package support.
  • PDF preview/view available alongside the editor during compilation.
  • Offline editing support in some cases, allowing work without constant internet.
Cons
  • Missing/broken package management: you can’t add missing packages and many packages are not supported.
  • Export and error-logging features are buggy or non-functional (PDF export sometimes missing; error logs not shareable).
  • Stability and performance issues: crashes and slow compilation, especially after updates.
  • Offline/typesetting limitations: offline compilation is not consistently supported and requires online access in many cases.
  • Inconsistent cloud storage integration: Dropbox and Google Drive support is unreliable or unavailable.

I’m really confused exactly who writes tex files in the manner that this program is expecting. At best, it’s absurd. It doesn’t connect with external systems, file structures, or cloud services at all (even though it says it does), it doesn’t allow the importing of previously made Tex files, and it expects a *file* when you attempt to link a *folder*(???!!!). It clearly intends to be completely self-contained and limited almost entirely to itself. The rest of us write for analysis and dissemination as a primary purpose… but apparently users of this program write in Tex as if it were a personal journal, always starting from scratch and creating for the authors eyes only. For $29.99, there should be full file system functionality and the ability to import Tex files and edit them on a major cloud server.

When I use “\usepackage{ctex}” it will report an error: “engine not supported”. The app claim that it support Chinese, but it does not support indeed. Cunning developer!

It compiles and show the pdf on the side but doesn’t generate it automatically and the option to export the file doesn’t work for the pdf! I searched much and there is no help to find out how to solve this issue!
