- Safety and liability concerns, including limited protections for sitters and reports of unsafe incidents.
- Upfront background-check fees and other barriers to entry (non-refundable).

Rover is a decent way to connect with potential clients, but beyond that, the app and customer support are seriously lacking.
Customer service is incredibly slow and frustrating. Even during a live chat, it can take 10–20 minutes to get a response, and when someone finally does answer, the responses often feel scripted, unhelpful, and disconnected from what you’re actually asking. It feels less like support and more like trying to get through a wall of canned responses.
The app itself is also unreliable unless you have nearly perfect service. Messages, notifications, and basic features can be inconsistent or difficult to use, which is especially frustrating for an app that sitters are expected to rely on while actively working.
Overall, Rover is fine as a platform for connecting sitters with clients, but the actual user experience leaves a lot to be desired. For the percentage Rover takes from every booking, the app should function better and the customer service should be significantly more responsive and helpful.
Use Wag instead.

The App is well designed and functional but using the Rover Service was a bad experience. First attempt at booking a sitter resulted in NO RESPONSE. While understanding that there are unknown circumstances that may have caused this, how does it happen with no follow up or accountability? I selected the closest person who offered this service. When they didn’t respond, all of the other options are further away and 50% more expensive. Not a good experience using Rover.
