Review summary

Sunday Lectionary is highly valued for quick, mobile access to Sunday readings and its support for both RCL and BCP with multiple translations. Users praise its usefulness for ministry planning and reliability over years, and many report prompt, helpful developer support and timely bug fixes. However, recurrent problems include crashes or blank screens after updates, messages about downloading/updating the database, and data issues when church years change (Year A/B/C), leading to incorrect or missing readings and even incomplete lectionary tracks. Overall, it remains a useful tool when stable, with strong support to fix issues.
Pros
  • Easy mobile access to all Sunday readings.
  • Supports both RCL and BCP lectionaries with multiple translations (NRSV/NKJV).
  • Reliable and useful over years; generally stable.
  • Responsive developer support and quick bug fixes.
  • Helpful for planning worship and quick reference during planning or emergencies.
Cons
  • Crashes or blank screens after updates; app won't open.
  • Database download/update prompts block use.
  • Year/date alignment issues causing wrong or missing readings when new church years arrive (Year A/B/C).
  • Incomplete lectionary data, with only one track shown.

2025-06-13 ke***** I just get a blank screen now after the app opens. And there’s nothing to click on to use the app. It appears to be a discontinued app that I have been using for the last two years. The same issue is also happening with the other app Daily Office Lectionary. Disappointed that both apps have stopped working.

2025-03-16 Li***** I just spent $.99 on this app and when I opened it I got a message saying database isn’t downloaded or update is needed. I checked the App Store for an update and it says the latest version was 5 days ago. Very disappointing and upsetting to spend money no matter how small the amount for something you can’t use. I hope this is fixed quickly.

2024-11-26 Bh***** As a pastor, this is one of my favorite apps! Will the app be updated to the RCL Year C (2024-2025) soon?

2023-04-04 Sp***** I find myself needing to quickly see and read the scriptures for specific Sundays while involved in planning future worship services, but I don’t like carrying extra books everywhere I go. This week I’m enjoying and being uplifted by reading the daily lectionary for each day in Holy Week as my quiet time contemplation. God is love, God is good.

2021-11-06 Bl***** This looks like it could be a great app if the interface was better: I cannot find a way to navigate to the Psalm, Epistle or Gospel. When I am stuck on the Hebrew Scripture Lesson I cannot rate the app greater than 1 star. Sorry. Show me where to navigate to other sections and I’ll change my review to 5 stars.

2021-07-23 Up***** On initial install (iPad Pro, most recent version of iOS)… the app popped the “download the database” dialog and then the app exited. Attempts to restart the app cause it to exit, even after power off reset of iPad. Several days later… it just started working. It’s a miracle! :-). OK, not really, but the app does work.
