Features & Capabilities

iOBD2 Chrome Extension turns your car data into a live diagnostic dashboard. It connects to OBD-II data to read DTCs, view live sensor data, and display customizable gauges so you see only what matters.

It offers extensive vehicle information, readiness tests, and tests such as O2 sensor, Mode 6, and EVAP. You can share records on Twitter or Facebook, and manage history of your drives. Note: ensure your vehicle is OBD-II/EOBD compliant and use compatible iOBD2 hardware; BMW or VAG upgrade options are available.

User Reviews

iOBD2 is a free app that can read/clear DTCs and show live data, plus dashboards, making it useful with WiFi OBD2 dongles on older cars. Many users praise its cost-free capabilities and longevity. However, stability is a major issue: frequent crashes, flaky connections, and poor reliability. The app appears unupdated for years, with limited support and gaps for newer vehicles and some protocols. These consistency issues significantly temper its usefulness for many users.
Pros
  • Free to read engine codes (DTCs) and clear them.
  • Displays live data and diagnostic information (RPMs, fuel trim, temperatures, readiness, etc.).
  • Broad hardware compatibility with WiFi OBD2 dongles (ELM327) and older vehicles.
  • Offers dashboards and more than basic code reading, aiding troubleshooting.
  • Longstanding, widely used tool that remains functional on older iOS versions despite limited updates.
Cons
  • App crashes when reading DTCs or accessing the trouble code tab.
  • Unstable performance with frequent connection failures and crashes; reliability is inconsistent.
  • No updates or slow/missing developer support for years; compatibility issues with newer iOS versions.
  • Lacks support for some protocols (e.g., J1850 VPW) and modern European cars; limited VAG/VAG-COM capabilities.
  • Overall reliability concerns and reports of poor user experience (crashes, crashes during data gathering).
