User Reviews

Engine Link offers powerful custom-PID diagnostics and highly configurable dashboards, with good vehicle/app versatility and affordable pricing. However, users repeatedly face connectivity problems, inconsistent adapter compatibility, and regressions after updates that can disable gauges or codes. Code coverage is incomplete, missing several sensor-specific readings, and the UI feels dated. Overall, it’s valuable for advanced users who need multi-parameter dashboards when it connects, but reliability and consistency across devices and updates vary.
Pros
  • Supports custom PID files, allowing advanced diagnostics beyond standard OBD-II codes.
  • Highly customizable dashboards with multiple gauges, enabling monitoring of many parameters at once (e.g., multiple dashboards with numerous dials).
  • Broad hardware/vehicle compatibility and strong value for money.
  • Long track record of reliability across many vehicles and iOS devices.
  • Helpful developer/expert support to set up PIDs and troubleshoot.
Cons
  • Frequent connectivity issues and instability; often won't connect or reads nothing.
  • Inconsistent compatibility with certain adapters (e.g., some MX+ or Wi‑Fi dongles not supported).
  • Update-related regressions where gauges stop working or the app fails to connect after updates.
  • Limited/missing codes; relies on generic OBD-II codes and misses several sensor-specific readings (e.g., P0327, ABS, yaw).
  • Dated, unintuitive UI; clunky navigation and layout.

I think this app is derelict, maybe last updated in 2014. No demo, so you can't see that it doesn't work until you buy the app... Doesn't work at all. Have an OBDLink MX+ adapter. It's compatible with iOS and is a high performance, high speed and thoroughly compatible adapter. This app doesn't detect or connect to it, yet I can slide right over to the free "Car Scanner" app and it snaps right up. It's also got some extremely crusty, landscape UI that hijacks the phone orientation and makes it hard to escape (relocating the "home" swipe gesture). And then I spent the next 20+ minutes fighting through layers of support to get a refund. Definitely stay away from this abandoned app!

Ok. It works with LeLink and it works with custom PIDs. I wish for a way to delete the default screens I don’t use (I have an EV) and more screens with smaller blocks for more data on the screen. I’ve heard there’s a new app on the block for iOS that does what this does.

I have diagnosed and repaired several vehicles over the years I have had this application. On my Dodge Charger it even specified which wheel speed sensor was bad, right rear. No guessing just replace the part and roll on.
