Fender Notion: Music & Tab is a cross-platform music composition tool that lets you write music in traditional notation or guitar tablature. It delivers realistic playback with high-quality instrument samples recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, and works offline so you can compose anywhere with online sync when available.

Free to start with unlimited staves and core soundsets. Optional Handwriting Recognition, Layout Controls, and Expansion Soundsets unlock via in-app purchases or Fender Studio Pro+. You can export as MIDI, MusicXML, PDF, WAV, or MP3, share Notion files, or transfer between devices on the same network.

Notion is praised for being easy to use, with a solid instrument library and strong score/notation capabilities, plus good cross‑platform use and accurate score printing. However, users frequently report data loss after updates, persistent login/purchase issues, unstable copy/paste, missing core features (GM sounds, MIDI-out) and chord diagram editing, and concerns over subscription pricing gating features. Overall, usability and workflow are strong, but reliability, feature completeness, and pricing are common pain points.

Recent reviews

I did pay for the notation pencil add on and while you don’t need it, it works well. I bought other notation apps for the others and they just sit unused. Also if you own Fender Studio Pro (Studio One Pro) the extra music pack is free. Finally Fender Notation is updated, some of the others do not.

There are benefits to the program like it is easy to navigate, it is IPad friendly, and has good sound quality. The things that should be improved is that instruments should be of a wider variety, for example; I wish there was percussion staffs that are 5 lines without it being drum set, and that percussion notation is wrong like Flam should not be written as a word in the staff, it is like writing fingerings instead of accidentals. There are other things that I could harp about but I just think the producers should check some of their tools and compare them to other popular programs like MuseScore and Dorico and see what they should change. Other than that, I don’t plan to stop using this program.
