User Reviews

Overall, iKaossilator is beloved for a fun, intuitive sequencing workflow and the way it mirrors hardware in a portable package, making it a favorite for on-the-go idea generation. The biggest negatives are missing arpeggiator/gate arp, limited track controls and features (AUv3, expansion packs, longer loops), and aging maintenance with crashes and lag due to years without updates. Some users also find the visuals overly flashy or hard to disable. If Korg updates it (adds arpeggiator, better stability, and more sounds), it would be near-perfect for live performance and studio sketching.
Pros
  • Fun and intuitive sequencing/workflow; many users describe it as the best music sequencer with a fluid, jam-friendly interface.
  • Great for on-the-go beat making; portable and easy to pick up for quick ideas.
  • Faithful to the hardware Kaossilator feel, offering a familiar workflow in software.
  • Widely loved and recommended; described as a favorite app by multiple users.
  • Strong creative potential; effective as an idea generator for songs.
Cons
  • Lacks an arpeggiator/gate arp; repeated requests to add one without response.
  • No updates for years; perceived neglect and aging software.
  • Crashes and lag; stability issues reported by users.
  • Limited feature set: no AUv3, no expansion packs, only four-bar loops, limited per-track controls/mixer.
  • Overly flashy visuals; hard to disable and visually distracting.

I own four versions of the hardware. A Kaossilator, a Kaossilator 2, a Kaoss pad, and the new NTS1 Kaoss. All of the Kaossilators have a gate Arp -except this app -which I have owned since day one and I have contacted Korg at least 15 times regarding this and have updated my review many times. Why can’t they add one? Why is it so hard? Make it an in app purchase and I will buy it. Don’t get me wrong- Kaossilators are all touch screen so it isn’t a huge leap for a touch device and they pulled it off well except for the arp. They even allowed the option of turning of the flashing lights as requested by many users they never listened when users asked for an arp. Gate arp! The 13 th year in a row I have requested.... please!! I did pay full price for this app when it came out, which was quite a bit to pay for an app that many years ago. Come on Korg don’t abandon this app… it’s only back in the top 100 because it is on sale and it still has not even had an update in three years!! it isn’t like you have to rewrite the entire app just put and arp in it!!! NOT COMPATIBLE WITH iOS 26!!!!!!!!!

See, that’s a complaint I totally agree with. Otherwise, for free (?) it’s pretty good.
