User Reviews
Pros
- Strong, crowd-sourced data contributed by the Mountain Project community for finding routes and planning trips.
- Excellent for planning outdoor climbs and saving time locating routes.
- Broad coverage, especially for US climbing areas, with lots of information on popular crags.
- Well-designed interface that makes it quick to find data.
- Useful for tracking climbs and accessing information beyond a traditional guidebook.
Cons
- Forums section removed from the iOS app, breaking the community and marketplace features many users relied on.
- OnX account integration on iOS creates sign-in friction and can block access for some users.
- Diminished UX after updates, including a clunky interface and the infamous update wheel.
- Unreliable maps and search: inaccuracies, poor route labeling, and difficulty locating climbs.
- Limited offline use and reduced ability to add photos or comments without online access.
Recent reviews
The most recent update has completely broken the app. It’s permanently on syncing with the red bar at the bottom and I cannot load any tick lists. When I go to any route it continuously jumps back up to the top of the page. I’ve deleted and reinstalled already. Nothing is fixing it

To start, the biggest advantage to having this app (especially on the phone) is having a catalogue of documented routes to search for. When I’m in an area with no service and I’ve downloaded things ahead of time, the info is quite useful. Now, the disadvantages. No ability to comment on routes in the app, and no way to see any of your lifetime stats or even your profile. These features are available on the website but not the app, and I’m wondering why? The app seems like the most logical place to have those features, so disappointed with that and probably will use the website more than the app.
