User Reviews

Spread the Sign Dictionary is valued for its extensive, multilingual sign dictionary and video-based learning, and is easy to use and classroom-friendly. However, its usefulness is hindered by frequent video playback failures, heavy paywalls, infrequent updates, and occasional errors, with some missing country-language content.
Pros
  • Extensive, multilingual sign dictionary with signs for many languages and countries.
  • Video demonstrations help learning and are a major advantage.
  • Easy-to-use, quick-reference interface suitable for learners and classroom use.
  • Positive endorsements from teachers and learners indicating broad usefulness.
Cons
  • Video playback issues: videos frequently fail to load or play across many entries.
  • In-app purchases gate most content and prompt repeatedly, hindering use.
  • Lack of timely updates and optimization for newer iOS versions.
  • Occasional errors and instability (search failures, content not visible).
  • Missing content for some languages/countries.

There’s some signs that are different from what I have learned and what other deaf people have learned. In my opinion it’s overall one of the better sign language apps out there, but I wish they would bring back the different speeds the person signing is performing. Also if there’s no video for a particular sign, the developer should either get rid of it or add it. Major plus is the different languages for signing. It’s a lot easier to explain to people who don’t understand there are different signs for different languages.

I’ve been working w spread the sign for about 8 months, building favorites, reviewing, really finding the app helpful and then today poof all my word lists that i have spent hours building and studying just disappeared! So much work down the drain and no support team to turn to. Seriously disappointed.
