Features & Capabilities

onTime LIRR is a fast, commuter-focused schedule extension that helps you find the next Long Island Rail Road train in a New York minute. It’s designed for speed and ease of use: quickly look up schedules, check outages, see the countdown to the next train, and view weekday vs weekend times at a glance. The app emphasizes paperless travel and environmental friendliness.

Key features include outage alerts, track numbers, trip duration, peak indicators, and holiday schedules. It supports offline use on compatible devices and provides the latest schedules even when connectivity is limited. onTime Premium offers extra access via yearly subscription; pricing varies by country and auto-renewal is enabled by default. Data comes from transit agencies and is not affiliated with them.

User Reviews

Users praise the app for showing daily LIRR times and a straightforward planning interface, but a large number of reviews express serious concerns: phishing-like links, fraudulent charges, and deceptive ads; persistent, intrusive ads; inaccurate schedules or no trips found after updates; stability issues, crashes, and loss of offline functionality; notification spam; and loss of saved favorites, all indicating a degraded experience since the latest update. Overall, reliability and safety are the main pain points, with some still valuing the core scheduling features.
Pros
  • Clear, day-long train times and stops displayed in a readable layout.
  • Easy-to-use, intuitive planning interface for LIRR trips.
  • Generally reliable for scheduling according to several long-time users.
Cons
  • Security risk: phishing-like activation links and fraudulent ads that can lead to card fraud.
  • Intrusive ads and ad redirects during use, including when inputting ETA.
  • Inaccurate or missing schedules: wrong times, next trains not shown, or 'no trip found' after updates.
  • Crashes, freezes, and broken offline functionality after updates; app becomes unusable.
  • Excessive or unwanted notifications (spam) about trains or delays; loss of saved favorites.

Why do I have to click ok to accept preferences every time I use the app? Select once and save. Also fix doubleclick, its too close in the UI to the date/time selector, changing the date or time keeps opening Kohls ads and kicking me out of the app. These are basic easy fixes

I used this app to pay for my ticket to a train that didn’t take me to the location I selected in the app. App stated that I could take a 3:17PM train from Jamaica to Wydandanch arriving at 3:57PM. Including the track number. Followed the directions through the app, and I ended up in Babylon and had to pay for a lyft to get back to where I needed to be. Would rate this app 0 stars if I could.
