User Reviews

Reviews consistently praise the nostalgic, music-rich port of Secret of Mana on iOS, highlighting its faithful feel and portability. The downsides are performance and controls: frequent frame-rate drops, blurry visuals, and imprecise touch controls. Crashes and stability concerns appear in some reports, along with requests for Apple TV support and cloud save syncing. Overall, fans love the vibe and soundtrack, hoping for 60fps, better cross-device saves, and broader platform support to complete the experience.
Pros
  • Nostalgia and faithfulness to the SNES classic that many players still consider one of the best RPGs.
  • Outstanding music and soundtrack that many reviews say justifies the purchase.
  • Controller support is available and often preferred; Bluetooth controllers are recommended.
  • Art and visuals preserve the retro charm, with some reviews noting an appreciable upgrade.
  • Portable play with low power drain and good offline usability for quick sessions.
Cons
  • Severe frame rate issues and a lack of 60fps; performance is frequently choppy.
  • Graphics can feel blurry or overly filtered, making visuals less crisp.
  • Touch-screen controls are imprecise and movement/aiming can be unreliable without a controller.
  • Stability problems include crashes and glitches on certain devices or after updates.
  • Platform limitations: no Apple TV/tvOS port and no cross-device cloud saves or iCloud sync.

The music alone is worth the purchase, but the ring system menu makes this such a great game and groundbreaking RPG. Only complaint - we’ve been waiting for Secret of Evermore for so long - port that joint to iOS!

I should have listened to the other reviews. I gave 3 stars because I love this game, but this port just misses the mark. It’s super choppy and they didn’t do any favors to the smoothness of the animation. I played it for a few minutes and put it aside. It does have controller support, but trying to aim up or down with an analog stick is pointless. Playing on a 15 pro max with backbone and it still feels lackluster. Ran better on the SNES.

This is a solid port of the Secret of Mana made for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Though I’m sure the on screen controls are adequate, I find prefer utilizing a Bluetooth controller and in so doing very much enjoy it. The biggest sin here is that this excellent game has not been ported over to Apple TV platform yet. With every passing year that gets more and more frustrating. I would love, love, LOVE to have a iCloud sync of saves between devices on the road (iOS) and at home (tvOS). Don’t even come at me with AirPlay, that’s a TERRIBLE experience. Do us a solid square Enix developers, and make this happen for not just this game, but the majority of your games where possible.
