User Reviews

Luminos is praised for its depth of information, beautiful visuals, and handy planning tools, earning loyalty as a top iOS astronomy app with a history of updates. However, repeated concerns center on the shift to a subscription model that locks prior purchases behind ongoing payments, plus recurring technical issues with sky tracking and search usability after updates.
Pros
  • Deep, well-presented astronomical data and explanations that appeal to both beginners and advanced users.
  • Beautiful, polished UI and rendering with impressive sky visuals.
  • Valuable planning and observing tools for astronomy and astrophotography (sky view, planning targets, etc.).
  • Widely regarded as one of the best astronomy apps on iOS with strong, ongoing updates and responsiveness from the community.
Cons
  • Switch to a subscription model that gates features previously purchased, causing frustration for existing buyers.
  • Sky/motion tracking and orientation features frequently break or become unreliable after updates.
  • Search and discovery issues (missing results for common objects and lack of clear feedback when nothing is found).
  • General update-induced instability and broken core features cited by multiple reviewers.

I have had this since it came out now that your subscription model is out why didn’t our purchase of the frugal count that’s why the two apps subscription is killing the App Store you were supported by those of us who chose it now it won’t update launches or the brightest. Guess we have to pay more.

Latest update broke best feature that allowed you to point your device at the sky and see a depiction of the sky and then track changes as you move your device. Now it no longer tracks and is hard to get it to update if at all.
