CharMap provides a rich Unicode symbol library and strong customization (alphabets, collections, and custom keyboards) with no ads, designed for cross-device use. However, it suffers from stability problems (crashes, data loss after updates), coverage gaps and feature limitations (missing symbols, fonts, search), and occasional keyboard display issues in certain apps. Improvement in reliability and symbol coverage would make it much more compelling.

Pros

Extensive Unicode symbol library including math glyphs, Greek letters, and drawing symbols.
High customizability: create alphabets/collections, add to favorites, and build custom keyboards.
No ads and free to use.
Clean UI with reliable cross‑device support on iPhone and iPad (and iPod touch).

Cons

Crashes and stability issues, including startup crashes and data loss after updates.
Symbol coverage gaps and feature limitations (missing exponent operator, some blocks; cannot download fonts; search by character name not supported).
Poor search functionality and general symbol discovery.
Keyboard display glitches in some apps (white rectangle) and initial keyboard activation problems; limited onboarding.

Recent reviews

I wrote several game books using the Unicode characters that this app enabled me to easily access. I used the APL glyphs and combining accents to write messages in my own custom emoji language. And the variety of standard Unicode math typefaces are always available for messages. And I keep any math symbols and logic language symbols handy. Great for computer science students or engineers. The box and line drawing glyphs are also nice to keep handy with this keyboard system on iPhone or iPad. Excellent product. I really appreciate it.

I want to type math equations with this app. Instead of writing “𝑏^x”, I want to write it to look different. So, what is missing? The symbol “raised to the power of x” is missing. I can type “𝑏²” but not “𝑏 ^x” in a shorter mathematical form. I actually like this app so far, but the dapper is that missing symbol. I would have given five stars. 😮‍💨
