User Reviews

Harry's LapTimer offers a feature-packed toolset for track days with video overlays, GPS/OBD data, and multi-camera support, backed by active developer/community support. It is praised for depth, flexibility, and value, but is hampered by stability issues, inconsistent video export/ playback, track coverage gaps, Bluetooth/GPS connectivity problems, and refund/support friction. Overall, it remains a strong option for enthusiasts who can manage its reliability and coverage limitations.
Pros
  • Powerful data logging and video overlay with multi-camera support (iPhone, GoPro) and reference lap comparisons.
  • Flexible hardware compatibility including external GPS, BLE OBD adapters, and various sensors.
  • Strong developer/community support with active forums, extensive documentation, and regular feature updates.
  • Accurate timer and rich telemetry that helps improve lap times and is considered great value for the price.
  • Reliable performance at many tracks and evolving features, making it one of the best lap timer solutions.
Cons
  • Stability issues: frequent crashes, freezes, and screen lockups during or after sessions.
  • Video export and playback problems: overlay workflows and saved videos can fail or be unviewable until reboot.
  • Track coverage gaps and compatibility problems: not all tracks are supported, some require another app, and some tracks aren’t recognized.
  • Connectivity and GPS accuracy problems: Bluetooth connections to devices can be spotty and GPS data can be off on certain tracks.
  • Refund and support friction: difficulty obtaining refunds and inconsistent support responses in some cases.

Lots of weird buttons that is unclear what it does to your videos. Pushed something trying to export and all of them disappeared. Not able to sort by best time, only by date/time. Records upside down and can’t automatically set to upright position, but all screen info is upright.

I bought this many years ago and used to work great. but over the years Harry has added so many features that the app has become extremely unreliable. He really needs to restart and build an app that is much simpler and easy to use, and reliable. The biggest problem I have right now is that when I record a video, it is extremely difficult to extract the video including overlay data onto my iPhone. I have to first narrow things down to a specific lap, and then when I try to export that to my iPhone it fails 9/10 times. Even when it succeeds, it takes 5-10 minutes to export each lap video. Far too painful.

I can overlook Bluetooth connectivity issues for the data and overlay, although I purchased and use recommended gps and OBD2 devices. Those are spotty at best. The app does fine of data logging and the video looks good. But when you overly and export a video the app basically won’t do anymore video viewing or exporting. Then in the photos app you can’t view the video that was exported (or any other video in your library) until you reboot the phone. The app did this with my iPhone 15 Pro and now the same with my brand new 16 Pro. I’ve deleted the app and moved on. Payed a bit more for the Garmin Catalyst but it’s much better. Harry’s lap timer is nothing but headaches.
