Features & Capabilities

Interval Timer is a dedicated timer for interval training (Tabata, HIIT, and circuit training). It features a very intuitive interface, a one-button start, and fully customizable intervals. You can configure prepare, work, rest, rest between sets, cool down times, cycles, and sets. Each interval supports individual customization, and you can add a description that will be shown on the timer screen and spoken aloud. It also offers direct-voice prompts, a bright color theme, ducking to lower music volume during timer sounds, saved workouts, and a quick workout option.

Display modes include Tabata Protocol, Rounds, Stopwatch, and Intervals. Apple Health integration tracks activity during workouts. The app is free to download with optional subscription. Terms about subscription, auto-renewal, and account management are provided in-app to help you manage renewals and trials.

User Reviews

Interval Timer excels in customization and audio cues, plus progress tracking, making it great for personal and group workouts. However, a recurring subscription model, limited multi-move rounds, lack of landscape mode, frequent review prompts, and variable alarm volume are common drawbacks mentioned by users.
Pros
  • Highly customizable timers and workouts, including per-round descriptions.
  • Keeps users motivated and on track during workouts.
  • Voice cues and customizable chimes make it easy to follow moves.
  • Workout history tracking over time to show progress and share with therapists or trainers.
  • Sleek, user-friendly interface suitable for group fitness and classes.
Cons
  • Subscription model with a free period that many feel is not truly free; prices can change.
  • Cannot handle workouts with multiple timed movements per round (only one movement followed by rest).
  • No landscape/TV-friendly mode; portrait-only display reduces screen use on larger displays.
  • Persistent prompts to write reviews; nagging pop-ups.
  • Alarm/alert volume can be low or inconsistent across devices.

I signed up for a free trial, canceled before it ended, and was STILL charged $27.49 for the subscription! Apple reversed it because I disputed it, but that is a shady business practice. Do not trust them!
