Features & Capabilities

The Alaska Department of Fish & Game (ADFG) mobile app is built for Alaska anglers and hunters to enhance pre-trip planning and in-field experience. It allows users to purchase and display licenses, permits, and big game locking-tag records, carry hunting and fishing licenses on their device, and present them to enforcement in the field.

The app also provides access to current regulations with location-based views, offline maps, harvest recording, and a dedicated sport fish species identification guide with images and descriptions. Future updates will expand sport fishing regulations and additional regulatory content to support regulatory compliance and field use.

User Reviews

User reviews repeatedly praise the app for storing digital licenses and permits, easy access to regulations, and offline logging, which reduces reliance on paper and improves convenience. However, most feedback centers on reliability issues: inconsistent sign-in across Google/MyAlaska/Fish & Game, frequent crashes when submitting harvests or viewing maps, and data-sync problems that prevent licenses, tags, and harvests from updating properly. Performance problems like long load times and non-working map features exacerbate frustration. Support and account-management flow also often fails. Improvements in authentication, stability, and syncing would unlock the app’s value.
Pros
  • Digital licenses and permits stored in the app, reducing the need to carry paper copies.
  • Regulations and current updates are accessible in-app.
  • Offline capability for recording harvests, dipnetting, and hunting results.
  • Ability to load and view digital tags/permits directly in the app.
Cons
  • Persistent login/sign-in problems with Google, MyAlaska, or Fish & Game accounts.
  • Frequent crashes and bugs, including crashes when submitting harvests or using maps.
  • Data sync/update failures; tags, harvests, and licenses don’t sync across devices.
  • Long load times and features like maps not downloading or working.
  • Support/account-management issues (broken support links, password reset unresponsive, can't change address).

Overall the app is bad. Clunky and not easy to navigate. Always difficult to sync your info to the app as well.
