User Reviews

Reviewers consistently praise the app’s exhaustive HomeKit device catalog, timely news, and a polished, responsive UI that makes discovery easy and links to purchase. However, several reviews repeatedly cite performance problems (slow loads, memory resets between launches), and a number of feature gaps (missing categories and manufacturers, lack of filters such as Thread, and HOOBS/HomeBridge sections). A subset also mentions adware-like behavior and privacy concerns around devices “phoning home.” Overall, strong content and design are offset by reliability and completeness issues.
Pros
  • Extensive, searchable catalog and information on HomeKit devices.
  • Regular updates with news, Matter support, automations and buying links.
  • Beautiful, Apple-quality UI with a smooth, responsive experience.
  • Strong discovery/browsing experience and easy comparison of products.
  • Links to buy and other useful external resources, plus indicators of owned devices.
Cons
  • Performance and stability issues: slow loads and settings reset between uses.
  • Missing categories, manufacturers, and filters (e.g., Thread) and HOOBS/HomeBridge sections.
  • Adware-like behavior or intrusive monetization.
  • Privacy concerns or 'phone home' behaviors by some brands.

On paper, this app is fantastic. It lets you see and browse and filter through all kinds of a nearly complete set of HomeKit compatible smart home devices, with links to find them on Amazon and a whole lot of other extremely useful information. It’ll even show you if you’ve got them in your home already. It’s the implementation that makes me so frustrated. While the interface is beautiful, the app does not remember a thing between uses. Furthermore, the news feature has its memory completely wiped in between uses of the app. That means I have to go in and select all of the individual news outlets again and change my settings back to what I had before. I have to do this every single time that I open the app it’s exactly I just downloaded it fresh again every time. This is especially frustrating because I think the news feature is really well designed, and it includes an automatic use of reader if you would like and even automatic translation, which is really important because some of the best HomeKit blogs are not written in English. But what really broke the back for me is the fact that the app basically takes 10 different tries just to load. And then when it does load, it’s an erased all of my settings once again. Everything about this app is great and well thought through. But this constant reset issue makes it completely unusable. To the Dev team – you built something really really great. Don’t let the continuing festering of this issue be what brings it down.

You would think Apple would make an app like HomeDevices, or at least include information about the 3rd party devices on their web based list, since HomeKit is their standard. This is especially true since as of now Apple has refused to release any 1st party HomeKit products (HomePod and AppleTV aside) and has thus far relied on 3rd parties to develop products for their ecosystem. All Apple provides is a list of devices currently available that support HomeKit. No information about the devices, links to the product page or even links to the websites of the device manufacturer. The HomeDevices app provides all of the information Apple should be providing and more. News about upcoming devices, Matter support, whether a bridge/hub is required, automations supported by each device, links to buy, and more. The one feature I would love to see the developer add is a section for users to share Shortcuts they’ve created for each HomeKit device so that other users can download them (similar to services/apps like Routinehub.io, Shorcut Archive, etc) but focused on Shortcuts exclusively for each specific HomeKit device.
