Users like the app for easy use, loading money onto the Pronto card, and transit timing. However, recurring problems include unreliable live timing/trip planner, onboarding and payment friction (no Apple Pay/Wallet), poor map/stop visibility, instability (crashes/timeouts), and device compatibility issues. These reliability and usability gaps outweigh the positives in many reviews.

Unreliable live timing and a frequently failing trip planner (blank results, timeouts, crashes).

Poor map integration and stop visibility (cannot see all stops on the map; map is slow).
Frequent crashes, freezes, and overall app instability.
Compatibility issues across devices/OS versions (e.g., iPhone SE/older iOS) and questions around refunds after payment errors.

Recent reviews

This app would be perfect if it sent push notifications for bus delays and cancellations. Twice now I’ve had to call for car rides because the bus just never shows up and the app doesn’t say anything.

I would suggest that no one should ever download this app and use it. It is unclear that every person must have their own app downloaded when you purchase tickets. When you do contact NCTD they point you to Pronto and then Pronto points you back to them. The customer experience team at NCTD is a complete joke and should probably get rid of their job titles since they don’t care about customers or the experience.
