User Reviews

Finamp is praised for strong Jellyfin integration, reliable background playback, and a modern OS-friendly UI. It’s often seen as a superior Jellyfin music client with solid server connectivity. Recurrent issues center on offline behavior—downloads can be inconsistent and per-song downloads may be missing, while offline mode can limit access (artist view). A donation button is also occasionally hard to find. Overall, it’s a solid Jellyfin music player with notable offline and stability caveats.
Pros
  • Strong Jellyfin integration with reliable background playback.
  • Modern, clean UI that integrates well with iOS features (AirPlay, lock screen artwork, dynamic island).
  • Excellent server access and convenient connectivity (DNS-name support).
  • Regarded as a better Jellyfin music client than the official iOS app.
  • Generally stable and easy to use for Jellyfin music libraries.
Cons
  • Offline download reliability: missing per-song downloads in some builds and downloaded items not always appearing offline.
  • Offline mode limitations: artist view may not function offline and certain content may be unavailable when offline.
  • Donations and feedback: users report the donation button is hard to find or missing in some builds.

Title sums it up. Very useful and great app. However I couldn’t leave a 5 star review in good conscience because there is tons of room to improve. Metadata is the biggest hurdle to overcome. Once you have all your files metadata filled out, Finamp becomes 75-80% of Spotify, minus the bs that nobody asked for. Using something like MusicBrainz Picard should make this relatively simple. What I like: -No ads, no bloat, just music. -User Interface is beautiful. -Transcoding support. -Playlist support / shuffle support, all playback features you would expect from a music player. However, I feel the following features are missing and would be a welcome addition to Finamp. -Adaptive bitrate -controlling other devices playback on LAN also using Finamp.(audio from device one, control on device two similar to Spotify “connect” feature.) -in app EQ -song crossfading with granular control, ie 1s-10s crossfading Otherwise, Finamp is a pleasure to use and is a great self-hosted replacement for Spotify. Thank you for your contribution to the self hosting community.

It’s a great app but still long way to go to compete with Plexamp, it needs Folder search , eq, transcoding only limited to 320kbps etc. I don’t see where to donate.

Finamp is brilliant in that it connects to your Jellyfin server. However, the app crashes 20 to 30 seconds into playing any song. If your music player cannot play music, I think it’s time to pack it up.
