Features & Capabilities

Lucidly collects health readings while you are sleeping via the watch. The readings are evaluated using artificial intelligence to determine when you have entered rapid eye movement (REM) of your sleep cycle. When REM is detected, the watch will alert you by triggering tactile and or audible signals. The user can attempt to recognize the signal in their dreaming state, or wake up and attempt to reenter REM via any lucid dreaming induction method of choice. Lucidly is the first and only application that specifically targets this phase of the sleep cycle using health readings in combination with machine learning and haptic signaling. The application works well and supports WILD, WBTB, DEILD and DILD induction techniques, and is available in two operating modes: Inference (REM detection and alerts), and hypnagogic (periodic haptics for sleep entry).

Lucidly integrates with Apple's health kit for functionality. User permission is required to read and write data. REM prediction is performed by neural networks while the application is in session and the user is asleep. Lucidly has an overall accuracy > 80%. REM inference is an approximation and results may vary. Familiarity and some experience with lucid dreaming induction techniques is recommended before subscribing.

Lucidly provides the following features:

  • Real time REM prediction with auto shut-off tactile and audible signaling.
  • REM stage determined by artificial neural networks (AI).
  • Greater than 80% model accuracy.
  • Two operating modes: Inference and hypnagogic. Modes can run in tandem or independently.
  • Ability to adjust prediction thresholds, haptics, session and alert durations.
  • Analytics and charts generated for each session with notification timestamps.
  • Seamlessly integrates and displays Sleep App metrics.
  • Ability to playback sessions and test different settings against REM detection models.
  • No registration required to use the application.
  • No personally identifying information is collected.
  • Subscriptions are auto-renewable and can be cancelled any time.
  • All plans include a FREE 7-day trial.

User Reviews

Lucidly shows promise by enabling REM sleep alerts and real-time REM detection via Health data, with customizable haptics and potential dream-recall benefits. Yet it suffers from reliability problems, frequent watch-Phone sync issues, and a costly subscription, compounded by a demanding setup and occasional health-data friction. Overall, strong concept poorly executed in long-term consistency.
Pros
  • Wakes you during REM sleep with haptic alerts.
  • Real-time REM sleep detection using health data.
  • Improves dream recall for some users.
  • Highly customizable haptic alerts and settings.
  • Unique cross-device capability for Apple Watch and iPhone (REM alerts feature).
Cons
  • Frequent watch/phone connectivity and sync issues causing alerts to fail.
  • Overall reliability issues and bugs leading to interruptions.
  • Ongoing subscription cost / monetization concerns.
  • Complex setup requirements (Sleep Focus, foregrounding apps, etc.).
  • Health data integration can cause issues with Health app and activity rings.

I was so elated when I saw that there’s finally an app that can wake you up during REM sleep that I actually bought an Apple Watch just because of this. But sadly, it doesn’t work because of the sync issue. The instructions are very vague and I’ve looked high and low on YouTube, but there’s no instructions That are very thorough on how to use this. I did end up figuring it out and I did get it to sync at the same time By leaving my watch on always on display. But somehow, when I sleep, it turns off. I did buy the subscription, but I regret it. One they should have a YouTube video explaining very thoroughly how to use it and how to keep it synced . My phone is 16 max Pro and my watch is the ultra 2 so you would think with the latest model it should run smoothly. If this gets fixed, I will change my rating to five stars happily . I’m still hopeful.

The science on how this works is already a bit shaky but I thought I would give it a shot anyways and paid the subscription cost. But the app kept getting interrupted so I never got it to work while I slept. 1 star
