User Reviews

Fantasy Hike is lauded for its engaging Tolkien-inspired journey that motivates users to move more and enjoy friendly competition with friends and family. People praise the visuals and simple interface, and many are drawn to the one-time purchase that unlocks unlimited miles. However, recurring gripes center on a restrictive free tier and perceived high pricing, inconsistent distance tracking (including non-walking activities), and a lack of interactive maps and regular new content. Overall, it’s motivating and fun for fans, but pricing, accuracy, and feature depth are key concerns.
Pros
  • LOTR-themed journey that motivates daily and weekly walking with engaging goals.
  • Strong social aspect: friends and family can join and race to Mount Fire together.
  • Perceived good value: a one-time purchase with unlimited miles is more affordable than subscription-based challenges.
  • Visually appealing design and a simple, easy-to-use interface.
Cons
  • Free version is heavily limited (about 1 mile/day); a paywall for more miles and features, making it feel expensive.
  • Distance tracking is inconsistent and can be inaccurate, and non-walking activities (cycling/paddling) aren’t counted.
  • Map and progress visibility are lackluster: the map isn’t very interactive and it’s hard to see upcoming distances or others’ progress.
  • Content updates are slow or limited; users want more quests and new content.

To be honest I don’t walk much! But im a big fan of lotr and I figured Id give this a try, so I got the unlimited miles and I haven’t been able to stop, tho Mr. Underhill (Frodo Baggins) is a speedy bugger!

This is a very chill way to track how much you walk. It's fun to see the references and be able to compete against characters from other stories. I do wish there were other adventures that you could take. Overall very cool app!

So simple, yet so fun and well made. I wish I could start again for the first time. My family and I all raced to Mordor and it inspired me to re read the books.
