User Reviews

Users praise HRV4Biofeedback for stress relief, value, and mood-tracking that support a consistent breathwork practice. However, recurring concerns include unreliable camera-based measurements, data sync problems, login friction, unclear visuals, and compatibility bugs on certain iOS versions. Many see strong potential, especially with external device support, but UX and reliability improvements are commonly requested.
Pros
  • Helps with stress management through regular paced breathing and biofeedback, with many users reporting calm and focus.
  • Good value for money; described as basic but excellent value for the price.
  • Provides useful metrics, scores, and mood/trend tracking that help users see progress.
  • Strong external device compatibility potential (e.g., Polar H10) and suitability for serious users.
  • Promotes a consistent breathwork practice and daily routine, with features like resting heart rate insights.
Cons
  • Camera-based HRV/HR readings can be unreliable or inaccurate, leading to doubt about measurements.
  • Data syncing is unreliable, with data sometimes not saving or syncing properly.
  • Login/setup friction, including forced sign-in and random logouts.
  • Breathing visuals and UI are hard to see or understand (low contrast, unclear circle/pacing explanations).
  • Bugs and compatibility issues on some iOS versions, including occasional freezes or camera issues.

I wanted to try resonance breathing. Saw this on Reddit. This app doesn’t work at all. Save your $10. Use another app like Elite HRV or Optimal HRV.

the heart rate isn't recorded accurately. it dropped from 80 to 30 for about a minute and then up 120. i checked it against my apple watch which had me at a steady 80-85. happy to change the review if i'm missing something in how i'm holding my finger over the camera

This has all that I need for using biofeedback to try to improve my training. It is basic but excellent value. One improvement I'd like to see is better login handling. I've been randomly logged out recently for some reason, and it's a bit of a hassle to log back in. I would also like to see integration with password managers to make this process smoother.
