Features & Capabilities

The PleurX App is a patient and caregiver tool for at-home pleural drainage management on smartphones or tablets. It does not connect to clinicians or hospital systems. Users can access and download drainage records, view the Drainage Procedure IFU, supplemental wall charts, an FAQ brochure, information on ordering more supplies, and a digital drainage log. The app also provides links to instructional videos from the PleurX website and the contact number for PleurX Patient Navigators.

Optional fields let users record pain levels, enter drainage details, and upload photos of the catheter site or drained fluid. Users can set a drainage schedule with reminders, and per the IFU, pleural patients are notified to contact their physician when drainage falls to 50 mL or less three times. This tool is intended for home care and self-management.

User Reviews

Users acknowledge the app's goal of teaching how to drain and track pleural drain volumes, but a pattern of reliability problems dominates: frequent crashes and data loss, persistent login and password issues, inability to log multiple entries per day or record precise amounts, and poor cross-device syncing and support. These issues undermine its usefulness.
Pros
  • Great for learning how to drain and track the volume removed.
  • The app is designed to help users log and monitor drainage data for medical follow-up.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and data loss; inputs not reliably saved.
  • Login/authentication problems including password issues and inability to log in across devices.
  • Cannot enter more than one drainage entry per day and cannot enter precise drainage amounts.
  • No password saving and poor cross-device syncing; device-specific limitations.
  • Update/install problems (reinstalling and crashes after updates) and poor support.

This app is great for learning how to use the equipment to drain and track the volume removed

The app doesn’t allow you to put the proper drainage amount. My drainage could be 325 and it doesn’t allow to chart that amount . We need to be able to chart accurate amounts. Other than this issue the app works good.
