User Reviews

Yale Access is easy to set up and generally reliable, with positives around Airbnb guest-code automation and a modern UI. However, recurring issues with battery indicators and battery life, frequent app bugs, limited multi-lock management, and reliance on a bridge for remote/HomeKit control are common. Users also report account/setup friction and access-control bugs. Overall sentiment is mixed: strong concept and ease of use, but reliability and feature gaps hamper broader satisfaction.
Pros
  • Easy to install and set up; intuitive and user-friendly.
  • Reliable operation with remote access; can control from anywhere.
  • No more physical keys; digital access and guest code automation (Airbnb-friendly).
  • Modern, clean app UI with solid quality.
Cons
  • Battery life issues: inaccurate battery readings and frequent battery changes.
  • App instability and bugs: crashes when enabling auto lock, calibration failures, and code/update errors.
  • Limited multi-lock management: no overview/list of locks, no scenes, and no bulk controls.
  • Dependence on a Wi‑Fi bridge for remote access and weak HomeKit integration; some users report connectivity issues without the bridge.
  • Account/access control problems: privacy policy blocking setup, difficulty reassigning/removing locks, and bugs with adding/removing users.
  • UI annoyances like the toolbar obscuring the battery indicator.

I’ve had the Yale lock professionally installed and redownloaded the app. The lock itself does its job fine. Apparently the $200 lock I bought also needs another device so that it can be wifi enabled? On the app, I say “redownloaded” because I stayed at an Airbnb years ago that recommended use of the app. I can’t delete it from my keychain and every online help guide keeps saying to go to a section I simply don’t have on my app. The whole thing is extremely disappointing. I switched from kwikset because I thought this was too of the line. I sincerely hope I’m missing something because if this is what a ~$200 lock gets you and the app is essentially useless since there’s no wifi option without another purchase, hard pass.
