Features & Capabilities

Gap Click by Benny Greb is a rhythm-training metronome designed to improve timing beyond keeping a steady beat. It introduces gaps where the click drops out and shifts the click to off-beat positions, challenging you to stay locked to the groove and internalize the pulse across subdivisions.

You can explore a variety of syncopated patterns, choose tempo with a wheel or tap, and work with standard time signatures. The app includes visual feedback and accessibility with VoiceOver, accent options, screen flash, and a one-time purchase that unlocks all current and future features.

User Reviews

Gap Click by Benny Greb is widely praised for its innovative gap-click timing training, helping players develop groove and accuracy, and for its clean, intuitive UI and easy tempo control. Reviewers also highlight the depth of subdivisions and time-signature options as a major strength. However, several recurring limitations dampen potential: time signatures are limited to simple meters; subdivision options could be richer; tempo range is capped around 250 BPM; no per-song tempo presets; and a few UI quirks. Overall, it's a powerful, affordable tool with room to grow.
Pros
  • Gap Click concept significantly improves timing and groove, helping users hear and fix timing issues.
  • Rich subdivision and time-signature options, including e and a subdivisions and a variety of meters.
  • Simple, clean UI that's easy to understand with intuitive tempo control (wheel/tap tempo).
  • Background playback works across apps and during recording, enabling uninterrupted practice.
  • Great value for the price and a highly effective practice tool for groove and timing development.
Cons
  • Time signatures are limited to simple meters (3/4–7/4); lacks complex/compound meters (e.g., 7/8, 11/8).
  • Subdivisions are limited; users want more options (e.g., 5s, 7s) and more varied subdivisions.
  • Tempo range is capped around 250 BPM, making very fast tempos difficult.
  • No tempo presets or per-song tempo storage to quickly recall settings.
  • Occasional UI/UX quirks (volume control not always effective; startup overlays can cause brief unresponsiveness).

Hello! Amazing metronome. But there is a huge request. Please add a 1/4 size.

I heard about this app from Reddit after I searched for "best metronome for guitar". The gap is so good for training myself to maintain a tempo! The interface is very intuitive except for the tap circle, but I just learned what that does from reading a review on my way to write this one. I went and tried it really quick, and it's perfect! So useful! I've only used the default sound because I find it pleasant, so no need to mess with it. By contrast, I checked out some youtube BPM videos yesterday, and the sound effect was so awful, I just couldn't. I love that it keeps playing even if the app is put in the background, and it even plays while the Voice Memo app is recording! (The metronome will be on the recording though.) The only thing I don't see that I would like to have is the ability to store tempos (so I can quickly grab the tempo I was last using for each of the different songs I’m practicing). Update: after using the app for a bit, there are two things I want to note. Firstly, the app volume adjustment doesn't seem to work. The volume seems the same loudness when I’m using other apps as it always has—even when I have it set to 10%. At 10%, I would think there should be a discernible difference. The second issue is when the app first loads or when the output audio changes devices, it pops up on the screen which device, and while it displays, the app is unresponsive. I personally don't care to see the device displayed like this, but what I really want is to be able to hit play right when I open the app and not have to wait for the "Speaker" overlay to disappear. Thanks!

The fact that this gives you nearly all the functionality of the $100+ metronomes of yesteryear in a snappy little app? Brilliant. Easily makes it way into my rotation of practice aids!
