User Reviews

Recurring user feedback centers on a fragile, hard-to-use ADT Control app with unreliable video features and a lack of UI customization (dark mode). Users report frequent crashes, a cluttered interface, and limited per-area arming options, along with inconsistent support experiences. Improved stability, UI clarity, granular control, and video handling are top requests.
Pros
  • Easy to navigate
  • Impressive ADT security services overall
Cons
  • App crashes frequently and is overall unstable/clunky
  • Interface is a nested, non-intuitive mess
  • No dark mode and the app is too bright; users want a dark/light mode option
  • Camera/video features unreliable: not recording, playback issues, and video management limitations (e.g., no bulk delete, inconsistent access)
  • Limited arm/disarm controls: cannot selectively arm/disarm different doors or buildings from the app

I built apps for decades. I ran design and engineering teams for national companies. This terrible redesign is a classic case of somebody deciding that they needed to make their mark, to prove their worth, to change things that didn’t need to change. The end result of this kind of thinking is always a mess. Listen to your users. Do some usability testing. Some of the grievous errors are so bad that it’s incredibly baffling that they ever made it past the first design meeting: 1. Arming and disarming is the most fundamental activity in the app. Why make the font so small as to be barely readable? 2. Turning the light timer module on and off is something I do multiple times a day. I still can’t easily tell what is on and what is off because the icons are so poorly conceived. Please scrap the redesign and revert back.

I rarely write negative reviews, but I feel a strong obligation to warn others to stay far away from ADT. Once you sign up, you are locked into a rigid 3-year contract that they use to force you to stay because their actual service and product quality are terrible. I am honestly considering paying off my entire 3-year balance right now just to be done with them. The issues are endless:The Equipment: The hardware is cheap. The only decent parts are the Google Nest cameras, but ADT isn't even properly integrated with them. You are forced to pay for a completely separate Google subscription just to save your video recordings on top of what you already pay ADT.The Software: The app experience is completely broken. You have to juggle multiple separate apps just to manage different basic features of your security plan, and the billing system frequently gives you issues when trying to make standard payments. The Contracts: They lock you down because they know no one would willingly stay with this level of service.Better Alternatives:If you want a reliable home security system, look elsewhere. For example, systems like Cove use Eufy products which are incredibly high quality, don't require forced monthly subscriptions to function, and allow you to cancel at any time if you aren't satisfied. Avoid ADT at all costs.
