Weather Alarm: be ready before the storm arrives

Weather Alarm tracks rain, snow, thunderstorms and hail around you and tells you when they are heading for your location.

Other weather apps just show you that it is raining somewhere. Weather Alarm follows precipitation in real time and works out whether it is actually moving towards you.

HOW IT WORKS

Our servers continuously process live radar data and calculate the direction, speed and intensity of every precipitation cell around you. From that we estimate what is approaching your location, and when.

The key difference: Weather Alarm does not go off simply because there is a storm somewhere nearby. It tells you when a precipitation cell is moving towards you, and adds an estimated time of arrival.

Hiking, skiing, cycling, riding or working in the garden, you will know sooner when the weather is turning, and you will have more time to prepare.

• What is falling at your location right now • How many precipitation cells are around you • The intensity of the nearest cells • The distance to the nearest cell • An estimate of when precipitation will reach you

Open the animated radar map or the graphical view of your location for an overview of what is happening around you.

There is also a detailed ten day forecast for locations you choose yourself. The app includes a home screen widget showing the current temperature at your chosen location and precipitation on its way.

MORE THAN A WEATHER APP, A COMMUNITY

Community reports Report hail, lightning, heavy rain, wind or flooding near you with a single tap, and follow other users' reports live on the map.

Weather prediction games Put your forecasting skills to the test. Predict whether a storm or hail will reach a given town, place your points directly on the map and climb the leaderboard.

User photo gallery Share photos of the sky, storms and hail from your area. Rate and comment on other users' photos and see where they were taken.

Leaderboard and prediction history Follow your results and review your past predictions.

EARTHQUAKES AND THERMAL HOT SPOTS

The map also shows earthquakes reported by public seismological services. The notification arrives after the event and gives magnitude, time and distance. The app does not predict earthquakes and is not an early warning system.

We also show thermal hot spots detected by NASA satellites. These refresh with a delay of several hours and are meant for browsing, not for reporting fires. A detection is not proof of fire, because satellites also see agricultural burning and industrial heat.

Because our servers do most of the heavy lifting, Weather Alarm stays gentle on your battery and quietly watches the weather for you.

Notifications are generated automatically from radar and satellite measurements and may be inaccurate or delayed. Do not rely on the app for safety critical decisions. In severe weather and other emergencies, always follow official sources and the instructions of the responsible authorities.
