User Reviews

RainAware is praised for its simple, quick rain checks (next few hours) and a useful rain clock, with some noting strong developer responsiveness. The most common criticisms center on the post-update experience: a cluttered, data-dense UI that makes navigation harder and slower to use; performance issues such as long launch times; removal of familiar quick-glance features (like the bar graph view); changes to saved locations/ZIP code saving; and a pricing shift toward subscriptions and premium maps. Overall reliability feels mixed after the update, and many long-time users miss the original simplicity.
Pros
  • Simple, quick rain checks for the next few hours.
  • Accurate near-term rain timing for local area (where it works well).
  • Rain clock and real-time rain visualization remain useful features.
  • Responsive developer support and communication when issues arise.
Cons
  • Post-update UI redesign leads to a cluttered, data-dense interface that is hard to navigate.
  • Slower launch times and overall performance issues after the update.
  • Loss of familiar quick-glance features (e.g., removal of the bar graph view) and increased complexity.
  • Changes to saved locations/ZIP code saving make saving/recalling locations harder.
  • Pricing changes, including the loss of a lifetime license and push toward subscriptions/premium maps.

I have used RainAware for many years. It is the easiest way to see when rain is coming, what the intensity will be, and when it will end. I just opened the newest version and it is a big improvement. I really like how I can move what looks like a second hand on an analog clock around the dial to see the exact time of the rain activity. I also like how the map can be shown behind the rain clock. There is also a ton of adjustments that can be made in settings to customize to your liking, but default settings seem to work fine.

I’ve used RA for 7 years now, having lived in two states. This is the best weather app out there, hands down, when predicting precipitation precisely.

I've used the app for years and it really helps on the jobsite, pouring concrete, etc. though the new update is like stepping back to MSDos. A lot more detail and functions, but not as user friendly as the older. Hope it's a step in the right direction. Still absolutely worth the purchase.
