Features & Capabilities

Whole Eats is your go-to guide for embracing whole foods. The app helps you stay on track with a 30-day Whole Eating Challenge, scan barcodes or search descriptions to verify ingredients, and quickly identify whole foods using the built-in list. It also includes a comprehensive Whole Foods List, a Journal to reflect how foods affect you, a Weight Logger, and a Grocery List to simplify shopping.

Beyond tracking, Whole Eats teaches you why certain preservatives or additives are avoided, and gives simple tips for healthier choices. Note: the app provides educational information about nutrition and ingredients and is not medical advice; consult a clinician before making major dietary changes.

User Reviews

Overall, users find Whole Eats useful for Whole30 checks, especially when typing ingredients and quickly verifying labels. However, reliability is a major issue: the barcode scanner frequently fails or mislabels items, and many common items are not in the database. Users report crashes, freezing, and a clunky interface, plus outdated or inconsistent data. Several reviews also question the app’s value for money. Despite its potential, reliability gaps limit everyday usability, making it more of a cross-reference tool than a dependable scanner.
Pros
  • Helpful for Whole30 compliance and used daily; works well for checking what you can eat.
  • Allows typing ingredients to search, not just scanning barcodes.
  • Barcode scanning can quickly indicate if a product is approved.
  • Best part is checking labels for compliance.
Cons
  • Barcode scanner often fails or returns not found or incorrect results.
  • Database is incomplete; many common items/ingredients are not found.
  • App crashes or freezes and the scanning workflow is not user-friendly.
  • Data can be outdated or inaccurate, with items misclassified as approved.
  • Questions about value for money; some feel it isn’t worth the price.
Recent reviews
Lots of items under package search is Not Found. Very frustrating. Should be a way to add those items and be reviewed to eventually see if compliant or not. Bar codes seem to have multiple items which becomes overwhelming while in the store.
