User Reviews

Users praise Pinnacle Climb Log for easy, Apple Watch–friendly climb logging, strong Strava/HealthKit integrations, and helpful data visuals. However, stability issues (crashes/black screens) and flaky Strava syncing are common complaints, along with missing features like rest timers, failed-attempt logging, and deeper analytics. HealthKit data syncing can be inconsistent. Overall, it’s a solid climber’s log with wearable-friendly logging and visuals, but reliability and feature gaps limit its appeal for some users.
Pros
  • Excellent Apple Watch integration; fast, on-wrist logging of climbs.
  • Strong Strava and HealthKit integrations.
  • Easy to use with an intuitive UI and quick climb logging.
  • Helpful data visuals and heart-rate insights that show progress and guide pacing.
Cons
  • Strava integration can be unreliable or flaky.
  • App crashes, black screens, and data loss after updates.
  • Missing essential features such as a rest timer, failed attempt logging, and more robust analytics.
  • Inconsistent syncing with HealthKit and gaps in session data.

Love the app but for some reason the Strava integration has been failing lately… maybe an easy fix?

The only things this app are missing is the ability to say if you failed a bouldering and a rest timer. When I am on a V3, it can take me multiple tries to get it right. I would prefer to log it as a failed attempt rather than a success. I would also love a rest timer. I could have a rest timer for failed and one for success. That way I am not sitting around for 5 plus minutes resting. It’ll give me a gentle beep to say let’s get back to it. Amazing app!

This app has the potential to be so much better but it seems like the developer has not made any meaningful improvements since launch. This app is good for logging grades, seeing heart rate, and has great Strava integration. This app is supposed to log your climbing location but it has never logged the climbing location correctly(either missing or logged as another state). Its pretty disappointing that this is pretty much all a paid app offers when a free app RedPoint, used to offer all that and so much more. RedPoint would record where (gym, outdoor crag) you climbed and how far you climbed (by measuring distance climbed) and the app would also automatically record climbs after each ascent/descent. These features no longer work on RedPoint after a iOS update. I paid for the Pinnacle app thinking it would have the same features but it is extremely bare bones and not very helpful to a training regiment. I have seen reviews for Pinnacle with users suggesting these missing features since 5 years ago but the developer has not added any of the features to the app. At this point, paying for the Pinnacle app means you are essentially paying for a fancy climbing themed notebook to log your grades.
