User Reviews

Reviews show a split: the app is praised for a comforting, supportive vibe and macro-focused nutrition guidance, with some users feeling it aids ED recovery. However, multiple reviewers report triggering BMI numbers and weight metrics, and an inability to edit or hide weight data, which can reinforce weight fixation and ED thoughts. Overall, Blue Buddy may be helpful for some users seeking balance, but harmful for others due to numeric emphasis and ED-related triggers.
Pros
  • Comforting, supportive vibe and feeling that the app is there for users.
  • Macro-focused nutrition guidance (protein, carbs, fats) instead of calorie counting.
  • Some users feel it helps with ED recovery by providing balance and accountability.
Cons
  • BMI input and BMI numbers can be triggering and potentially harmful for people with eating disorders.
  • Reliance on weight/number metrics can reinforce fixation on weight rather than recovery.
  • Inability to edit or hide weight/height data (settings limitation) can be problematic for users who find numbers triggering.
  • BMI/chart features and numeric displays can contribute to ED-related triggers for some users.

I downloaded this app and it soon requested that I enter my height and weight. Upon doing so, it calculated my BMI and told me the number. It then told me that I need to see a specialist as soon as possible, as my BMI is technically obese. This is very harmful as someone who has previously struggled with anorexia, as I regained weight so despite being overweight, this weight is healthiest for me. If I still had a bad mindset, this likely would've been very triggering for me to know my BMI as that number was something I fixated on when I was actively anorexic. This app is encouraging fixation on weight rather than fixation on recovery.

The app asks for weight and calculates BMI. After which will say where you are on that scale. Very triggering for people who deal with an eating disorder

I love this because when i struggled with an eating disorder. i think the reason i struggled was because of how i could control what i ate and everything was perfect. well now instead of counting calories this app shows me balance, it shows me how much protein, carbs, and fats i need in a day. Does anyone know how to change the weight or height tho?
